New Tile Plant Commissioning Underway at Toome

The newest, and certainly one of the most impressive production facilities in Northstone can now be found at Creagh Road in Toome. In the past number of weeks the first roof tiles have been produced by what is one of the most sophisicated tile production plants in Europe

One of the primary focus points in the design was to ensure that the factory was as energy efficient as possible and with the operation of the plant was intrinsically safe.

As we would expect, all of the construction materials for the new tile factory were sourced within Northstone and the building contract was awarded to one of our long established customers by way of a tendering process.  The batching plant and controls were supplied by Rapid International and Pneutrol Ireland Limited with the tile manufacturing and handling equipment coming from Vortex Hydra.  Several key sub contractors were also involved in assisting with the plant installation and these include CMM Electrics, Wright Engineering and Geoff Castle Boiler Services.

As with all Northstone projects, health and safety is the top priority and great credit must go to the Concrete Division’s Health and Safety Manager, David Smyth, for co-ordinating health and safety on a project where there were no lost time accidents.

After completion of the commissioning of the new plant, a new standard flat tile, known as the Donard tile, will be produced.  The Donard will be an attractive addition to the Concrete Division’s product portfolio.
