As part of our programme of facilitating educational visits, our Carmean Limeworks hosted a geology field trip from Methodist College Belfast at the end of February. The visitors were guided round the quarry by Angus Kennedy assisted by Michael Black.
Karen Parks, the group's leader, thought that the geological features on view at Carmean were exceptional. Both Karen and her students appreciated the opportunity of collecting so many fossils. Fossils found in the layer between the chalk and the underlying sandstone included echinoids, nautiloids, ammonites, sponges, bivalves and brachiopods.
